Traditional Elephant Ears

   Minimum Quantity:

This type of elephant ear is in the colocasia family and refers to the downward direction in which the leaf hangs.  These plants have solid green matte leaves (sorry no fancy color offerings just yet).  They will grow in full sun, but like caladiums, partial shade is ideal.  This type of Elephant Ear will go dormant in the winter.  They typically grow anywhere from 3’-5’.  This particular bulb is round and measured on circumference, different from caladium bulbs that are measured on diameter.  We offer the following sizes.

                                               #600 – 5” -  7”    lemon
                                               #601 -  7” – 9”    tangerine
                                               #602 -  9” – 11”  orange
                                               #603 – 11” – 13” grapefruit

Elephant Ear bulbs should be planted about 3-4 inches below the soil.  Plant root end down, sprout end up.  Spacing depends of the look you are trying to achieve.  We suggest 2 feet apart for nice fullness and 1 foot apart for a jungle look.  Elephant Ears should be stored in a warm area with good air circulation.  Rotate bulbs about once a month to help eliminate soft spots.
